Where Bacteria are Found:
Discover where bacteria can be found by exploring Infection Detection Protection. Once at the website, do the following:

1. Click on Bacteria in the Cafeteria image.
   
2. After reading the directions on the first page, click the blue START button.
   
3. Once you have found the first four stars, you must go to the left of the screen to highlight a different section of the cafeteria, to find other stars.

When you have successfully found all the bacteria, check with your teacher before continuing.

What Germs can do to the Body:
To learn more about germs and what they can do to your body, read the first four pages of What are Germs?. Check with your teacher before you read this article, because he/she may have already printed you a copy.

How the Body Responds to Germs:
As you read Infection!, you will discover ways that infection can occur, as well as how the body responds to microbes.

Create a Germ Comic Strip:
Your assignment is to create a comic strip (with at least five comic blocks) that tells the story of a germ.

Step One: Read the introduction to What's a Germ? and then pick one of the scenarios below as a basis for your story.

Scenario Ideas:

1. A student goes to the nurse because his tooth is aching.

2. A student scratches his arm and feels that it's bumpy. When he looks at his arm, he notices red bumps.

3. A student's foot itches, especially between the toes. The student looks between his toes and notices the skin is all red.

• describe how the germ is infecting the human body, including possible symptoms;
• describe how a person can help prevent that germ from invading the body in the first place; and
